Growing up in the North, school never started until after Labor Day. Living now in the South, it comes much earlier. Today is the first day of school for most districts around metro Atlanta, and I have 2 in high school; one a freshman and one a junior. For the freshman, it’s his first day of public school, and he’s looking forward to it. All our kids have been home schooled through 8th grade. One reason (of many) that we do this, relates to this article talking about Delaware schools. I

Sounds like an oxymoron of a title doesn’t it? But that’s what it feels like. Lazy, laid back, but still rather crazy days. It’s summer so we’re not homeschooling much but it’s the height of planner season so I’m filling orders almost every day –and drinking loads of fresh brewed iced tea (lemon, no sugar, thank you). I am ever so grateful that the planners are selling well because my husband is currently out of work (laid off permanently) and oh my it’s such a blessing to have him here.

So far in our series, we’ve looked at the three key questions that will help us discern the differences between homeschooling methods, and we’ve talked about how the Charlotte Mason method is different from a traditional curriculum and from unit studies . Today let’s look at how Charlotte Mason differs from the classical approach. Which Classical Approach? First, we need to clarify what we mean by “the classical approach.” An education based on classic, language-rich books that hold u
