They Want HOW Much? The Language Builder Picture Cards
I spent today putting together all of the lesson plans, art projects, finger plays etc., for Parker from September through December. I figure it is better to drive myself nuts a couple a times a year, than making myself nuts every Sunday for the entire year. I’m beat. This is a HUGE job. I’m in awe of families that home school more than one child. I’m just not that talented. Parker’s IEP is Thursday. I adore his pre-school teacher that comes once a week. Together we have come up wit

Not quite a homeschool room
I’m totally reposting an old post for My 3 Boybarians’ Blog Hop. Not all that much has changed since the last time I posted on the topic, except that I have a fifth child now. First, we have the independent learning center. This is where children may come to select activities and interact with one another during self-directed, exploratory activities.
Decisions
Last night I was talking to my Mom on the phone when she asked me, “So, have you decided what you are going to do about school yet?” I have had a hard time talking about homeschooling with my Mom because while I know she has faith in me to do well with the kids, she is one who is very concerned about the socialization aspect and I sometimes feel like she thinks I am not going to do good enough or something. She means well and she loves me and the kids, and it quite possibly could be me reading

“Praise the ripe field not the green corn”
Any farmer has that Irish saying always on their mind when the seed goes in. The fields aren’t being worked yet, but we are working on our spring garden. But first of all, and speaking of the Irish, St. Patrick’s Day was a few days ago. We had an Irish dinner of ‘taters, cabbage and beef. The Homeschool Cafe put together a Carnival full of blarney . Go check it out! Back to the green stuff in the ground. We’re slowly turning green around here, but the solid green is still evergre

Spring Fever
So this was our homeschooling lesson for today. Agriculture 101. planted flowers planted tomatoes laid down 8 (count them!!!) 8 bags of pea gravel looked at the leaves and said ‘my goodness there are a lot of leaves that need to be raked up’…and we left them there. We have six more stepping stones to put down and probably 20 more bags (!!!) of pea gravel. It seems to be helping to curb the dirt that our tunneling dogs tend to drag in. And the leaves…oh well…that will probably take

Kid’s Pick ::: Books by James Mayhew
As I have been preparing for our homeschooling journey with my girls, I have done a little looking around for books that introduce them to art. And by art, I mean the works of some of the masters … Leonardo da Vinci, Monet, Rembrant. I want them to appreciate art as something more than a cleverly craft Pixar image that comes across their screen and know that sometimes you might have to work a little harder to study the picture or to see what the artist is trying to get across. With that, I

Spelling Resource
Spelling was something that I wasn’t too sure how I was going to approach and something, I’ve been researching for awhile. With the curriculum (CM/Ambleside) method, spelling wasn’t recommended for Kindergarten or First Grade, but we are doing an eclectic blend of CM/Ambleside teaching, so I wanted to find something that was fun, creative and will keep the kids interest. Something that would be of interest to homeschoolers who are faced with the daunting question of what to do about Spellin

Tuesday’s Tip Jar
With all this searching for a house a good friend of mine suggested that I should really pay attention to school districts too. Whether you send your children to private school, public school, or even if you home school them it is wise to know some information on the school district where you live. When it comes time to sell your house one day this is a factor that may come into play. Young families with young children often want to move into neighborhoods with good schools. And really, in g

Calendars’ are your best friend
Join Stacy at her blog’s meme,”Mondays Homeschool Spotlight” every Monday. Something I learned VERY quick that a key component of homeschooling, both for the organized, the unorganzied, the schooling or the un-schooler, is that it really does help to have a calendar. This can be either through Gmail, Outlook, a wall calendar, your cellphone or something you print to but in your planner, but either way, having a calendar really does help you keep track of holidays, gatherings and special ev
