Literacy help needed.

Amelia was at school for 18 months before we started home schooling her. At the end of that 18 months she still didn’t recognise a lot of the alphabet. That was one of our main motivations to bring her home and educate her one on one. Now she has been home for 18 months and still she seems to struggle with reading and spelling especially. It occurred to me this afternoon that we don’t need any textbooks. All we need is an Animaniacs DVD or, better yet, YouTube. I’m serious here. If your children just memorize these clips they’ve learned a years worth of info and you can be done with the school year in the first day. Two if they’re slow

Homeschoolers – Let’s Not Get Hysterical About Media Reports

With regard to the media making hay out of homeschooler divorce court case in North Carolina (also read it here ), can we all just please calm down a bit? Let’s examine this case. This is what was reported: A judge in Wake County said three Raleigh children need switch from home school to public school. Judge Ned Mangum is presiding over divorce proceeding of the children’s parents, Thomas and Venessa Mills. Venessa Mills was in the fourth year of home schooling her children who are 10

Just Checking In

I’ve been in bed for the past 3 days with Strep throat. Haven’t seen my kids much at all during that time, but they have impressed me to no end. Maya and Elena have been running the house by themselves. Maya has cooked all the meals and Elena has taken charge of getting homeschooling, or at least chores done. (The second day, Kyle said: Gimme a break, Ginger, they don’t have to do school for a couple of days! lol He doesn’t share my obsession with structure and productivity.) Will be back soon t
