November is National Novel Writing Month
I realize that October has only just begun, but I need to use these next few weeks to prepare for an upcoming adventure… November is typically a very busy month for me. In addition to homeschooling our kids, I also start getting our Christmas decorations up (don’t worry, we don’t turn the lights on until Thanksgiving night), thoroughly clean the house from top to bottom, plan the Thanksgiving Day menu, and then cook the meal. Well, in my dementia, I have decided to add even more to this busy

Giving Birth to an Educational Philosophy
My sister has been having some issues with her younger son’s preK class. I wish she didn’t live on the opposite coast, since I could help her out more if she were nearer. She’s considering homeschooling again. She always finds interesting articles about it. A few days ago she sent me one called If You Want Real Reform, Homeschool from Just Enough and Nothing More . This had me thinking about homeschooling and why I made the choice I did. No one can tell me that it is easy to challenge a syst

Smucker’s Uncrustables – One of our Favorites! (Review)
As a homeschooling mom who is always on the go, I am constantly looking for meals that are wholesome, convenient, and quick. Uncrustables are one of those meals that I am often turning to. As an added bonus, Smucker’s Uncrustables are now being made with whole wheat bread, and I can feel great about giving them to my kids whether we’re on the go or at home. Uncrustables also come in lots of great flavors like Peanut Butter & Grape Jelly – our favorite! – and also on whole wheat bread; Pea

EA Sports Active Review & Giveaway!
As I have written before, physical education has been a challenge for us over the years since we have been homeschooling. I have always encouraged my kids to spend as much time outdoors as possible. I figured that as long as they are outside getting fresh air, they’ll also naturally start playing something active. I mean they are kids, and that is what kids do right? Well, this is true. But as my kids have gotten older and all of the neighbor kids have moved away, I often find them sitting

Bran Hambric: The Farfield Curse by Kaleb Nation
Hey! I’m here on a Sunday for a very special occasion…a blog book tour. A lot has been said about this new series and its author. Hopefully, I’ll say something interesting… In 2003, Kaleb Nation, a fourteen-year-old homeschooler was lying in bed when he had “the idea”. (His mom gave him lots of creative writing assignments

Learning with your children = checking math homework
This is my first time participating in the homeschooling meme. We are in our 2nd year of homeschooling and 2nd week of our school year. We use ABeka dvd curriculum and although it is a lot of paperwork. It works for us! The other day my son was learning “casting out 9’s” to check math homework.

Homeschool @ Home
I’ve been feeling under the weather lately and also other personal reasons, I’ve decided to take a hiatus from the 3-days a week homeschooling at Jenny’s place. So what do we do in our home learning journey then? I’ve resolved to focus on just the three R’s ( R eading, W r iting and A r ithmetic), Tim’s afterall still in the nursery level and I really do not want to drive him hard through the academic way. I still prefer the learn through play method. I wish to help my kids learn the natural wa
