Homeschool Hubbub: What Curriculum?
I promised a long time ago to talk more about our homeschooling. Since we’re coming up on a new school year I thought I’d better get my act in gear and answer more of your questions. (We’re starting August 3. Read this post from last year to understand more about why I like to start so early!) Here’s the question I’ll cover today: How do you design your curriculum? Do you do the pre-packaged stuff or customize your own? I guess I do a little bit of both

Our 2009-2010 Curriculum
It’s time for one of my favorite posts of the year: our next school year’s curriculum list! As homeschoolers, don’t we all enjoy taking a peek at what others are using in the upcoming year? I may add to or take away from our list as we get into full swing, but, for now, here is our 2009-2010 school year curriculum: Bible: Bible Study Guide for All Ages — Finally, we’ll be on Volume 2! ( Bible Study Guide review ) Grapevine Study’s Biblical Feasts and Holy Days ( review coming s

Summer Reading Programs
June is the time of year when many local libraries and other bookstores offer Summer Reading Programs. If school is out for summer in your house, these programs can put some oomph and education into your lazy summer days. If you happen to be a year-round homeschooler (like yours truly), it’s also a great way to add a little spice and motivation to your school day! My boys registered with our local library’s program yesterday and have already been able to mark off 2 hours of reading on thei

We have hundreds of items that fall into this category, but let me mention just a few classic and historical items that I believe would be helpful to any Christian home school family. The Websters 1828 Dictionary: This gigantic, oversized, heavy book is perhaps second only to the Bible in terms of importan

Great Homeschooling & Teaching Resources for You!
Being a homeschooling parent, I look to find as many valuable resources as I can to help me be the best teacher I can be for my children. And, some of these resources I turn to on a regular basis for information, print-outs, tests, and more. Since I received numerous emails from these resources today, I wanted to share them with you… Continue Reading in School Days …

Another Case for Homeschooling
Another Case for Homeschooling This post and video at BelchSpeak has gotten a lot of attention. Teachers do teach values even if they think they are having a balanced discussion. They will not necessarily be your values. This is a video of Diantha Harris, a lifelong democrat and avid Barack Obama supporter. She is also a lousy schoolteacher, as is evidenced by the mushmouthed kids in her class. And instead of concentrating on grammar and English, math and science, she abuses and ridicules any

The Homeschooling challenge
The Homeschooling challenge These days my routine, if I can even call it that, has drastically changed. Aside from the adjustment of adding baby number six to our midst, I am home-schooling the kids. Did I just say that? I have to re-read the last sentence to make sure it’s actually me home-schooling the kids and not a fictional character. Oh, but wait, as I look around and notice that my house is in a permanent state of disarray I know without the shadow of a doubt that yes, I am indeed home-
