Grading in homeschooling

Grading in homeschooling is done by the teacher-in-charge. In most of cases, this means mom! In this situation, grading can get quite complex, because it can be a little difficult for your own class child. There is no benchmark against which you can evaluate children’s performance . In most cases, you also have no awareness how well other children do. So, clearly the traditional Grading method may not be the best method to follow

Homeschooling On The Cheap

I made a quick stop into the Dollar Store yesterday. I needed to pick up some items to use for homeschooling. I learned that when shopping at dollar stores you’d better grab it while it there. Cause the next time you visit it won’t be. Hence the Christmas colored pom-poms in June. I looked high and low for a large holed bottle of some sort. I still am in need of some Tinker Toy sticks. Until then I’ll have to make do with dry spaghetti noodles. Okay.

Homeschool Kids Write

No, it’s not math, but it looks like a great way to kick-start Princess Kitten’s long-neglected blog . She sat down at the computer and browsed the links to other kids’ posts for over an hour last night, occasionally laughing out loud. Then she opened her Dashboard and started to type a response to the green assignment . I’ll have to let her know there’s a new post up today.

Joining Michele’s Discussion: What is Education? (Part 2)

Part 1 is here . ~~~~~~~~~~ Today, I’m going to combine a couple of Michele’s discussion starters: What’s your experience? Why did you choose to homeschool? Of course, these are huge questions. I don’t intend a comprehensive answer fully detailing our nearly-nine years of homeschooling.

Yesterday Boy Genius had a unit test in math, and I discovered he had forgotten how to divide fractions. No problem! Instead of moving on to the next lesson, we were able to sit down and practice dividing fractions until he understood the process. In fact, now I understand better how to divide f

What’s The Difference?

I had to stop school right now to post this. Normally I say how many more for subtraction, but this time I said what is the difference . AA: how many more days until we go to the VIP dinner? Mommy: well today is the 18th and the dinner is on the 26th. What is the difference between 18 and 26? (Mommy is looking for the answer 8.) AA: 18 is less than 26 One of the GREAT things about homeschooling is that children learn to think OUTSIDE the box! I loved her answer! Totally NOT what I was exp
