As reported in the Huffington Post, to focus attention on National Bullying Prevention Awareness Week, Disney star Demi Lovato has gone public. Baking Day Roundup

I realized a few hours into my baking day plans that I was running low on a few necessary ingredients, so I cut a few things out of my plans for this round. I also discovered that baking while trying to home school proved to be much more difficult than I thought. My next baking day will defnitely take place on an off day and with a much better plan. All in all thoughI did accomplish quite a bit. I ended up making: 1 loaf of homemade wheat bread 1 large pot of my favorite corn chowder

FREE typing program for kids

As a homeschooling mom (and a mom that likes to work with the kids when they aren’t in school) we are always looking for fun things to do. Especially things that teach the kids useful skills (Wii doesn’t count), AND get them to be quiet for 10 minutes at a time. A friend turned us onto this program years ago. It’s a FREE program offered on the BBC’s site. Dance Mat Typing is a fun way to learn to type. The only catch is you want to make sure your child finishes a level before they get of

A Workbox System For Special Needs Homeschooling

I’ve been loving the idea of Sue Patrick’s Workbox System . Well, it’s actually Sue’s system tweeked for Parker’s needs. What I’m going to share with you today is just the tip of the iceberg as to how we incorporate this into our daily homeschooling. I’ll have lots more to share as our school year goes on. We don’t have a homeschooling room. We use our dining room. Lovely, no? sigh. Oh, well, this will just have to do until the Prize Patrol figures out where we live.

Should homeschoolers wear pajamas to school?

One of the perks of homeschooling is the ability to stay in pajamas all day long . And my kids and I have taken advantage of that perk on more occasions than I can count. It’s just easier to stay in those comfy pj’s, right? But what I’ve finally come to grips with is that for our family, wearing pajamas while we homeschool just doesn’t work. Sure, it’s easy to be lazy and not bother changing. But I’ve noticed that when we do stay in our pj’s all day long, we don’t accomplish things as quic

Home Schooling Information.

by Owen Jones Home schooling or homeschooling, if you want (in deed, you even see it hyphenated, as in home-schooling) has been about for about 30 years now, although, of course it was all parents had before state involvement in education. Remote thinly-populated places in large countries like the USA, Canada and Australia still have to rely on home schooling to a large degree, although it is less difficult now with the wide-spread use of radio, television and the Internet. Video packages also

Playing Defense on Homeschooling

The internets are abuzz at the recent Salon article by Andrew O’Hehir and his attempts to explain why he and his wife have chosen to homeschool their children. I myself have gone back and forth, up, down, and sideways on whether to homeschool our 1st grader. In one sense, the thought of a curriculum tailored to my child and his specific interests greatly intrigues me. My little one is definitely an out-of-the-box thinker, and I would like to keep him that way. In this thought, I have a

Obama 101: Garbage in, Garbage out…

September 25, 2009 Obama 101: Garbage in, Garbage outWatch the videos below – smacks of Stalin-ism and Goebbels style inculcation, It is a stunning indictment of thow random and dangerous the public education system is and proof positive that parents must opt out of the system and demand vouchers for private schooling and vouchers for home schooling (vouchers for resources to home school adequately). The left refuses to recognize the need of objectivity among men – particularly men

Cult of Personality? What Cult of Personality?

Hattip to Ed Morrissey at Hot Air. From the B. Bernice Young Elementary School in Burlington, New Jersey, a public school. Get them while they’re young, get them while they’re young. Yet another good reason to home school. Tagged: Barack Obama, Cult of Personality, Indoctrination
